Pediatric Dentistry

We have understood that young teens, pre-teens, and teenagers require different approaches to understanding the importance of looking after their dental health. This would involve dental growth and development and guiding them to prevent future problems. Dr. Puffer would be the best person to handle this.

The eruption of your child’s teeth

Your child’s dental health would require attention throughout their period of growth and more prominently between the ages of two and eighteen. The first set of teeth would start erupting before the age of one year, and the permanent set of teeth would erupt by the age of six. Its growth would progress until the age of 21. By the time the child has grown into an adult, they would have a permanent set of 28 teeth that can count up to 32 considering the third molars, also known as wisdom teeth.

Deciding the best time for Orthodontic care

Children may begin to develop malocclusions or bad bites as early as two to three years of age. Early preventive steps can reduce the chances of further complications and ensure healthy teeth.

Early Treatment: Early treatment phase is between the age of 2 and 6 years. During this age, we are primarily concerned about underdeveloped dental arches, loss of baby teeth, and harmful habits such as thumb sucking and mouth breathing.

Mixed Dentition: We categorize this period as the time between the age of 6 and 12 years. Children will begin to develop eruption of permanent incisors and molars. During these years, children will be accessed and treated for jaw growth discrepancies and malocclusions.

Adolescent Dentition:During this period, adolescents are monitored for the growth of their permanent teeth and resolve bite issues, if any.

As you visit Dr. Puffer in Nacogdoches for your child’s dental health assessment and treatment, we will discuss every area of pediatric and adult dental care, from prevention, diagnosis to treatment.
